A home on the beach.

ADV 001 takes the top of a residential building on Avenida Atlântica, the avenue that runs the length of Copacabana beach. Two elevators bring you to the 13th floor, where the penthouse opens across two levels joined by a marble staircase.

The lower floor holds the living room, the dining room, a TV lounge, the kitchen, a breakfast area and four of the five suites. The upper floor holds the presidential suite and opens onto the roof terrace, with the pool and a covered pavilion. From the pool you see the beach, Christ the Redeemer, the Two Brothers and Sugarloaf.

It sleeps ten in five suites, each with its own bathroom. Three suites have king beds, one has a queen and one has two single beds, which suits children or two friends sharing. The whole penthouse is yours for the stay; nothing is shared with other guests.

A housekeeper who has worked for the owner for years is included in the rental. She prepares breakfast each morning and cleans the bedrooms and bathrooms every day. The Art de Vivre team welcomes every guest in person at the building's reception.

Living, dining
Four suites

Living and dining.

The main living room and the dining room share one large space with the marble staircase rising through the middle. A window wall in the living room looks straight out to the Atlantic.

The long dining table sits under the staircase, facing the ocean. It is where groups end up for the big dinner of the trip, whether the housekeeper cooks a Brazilian meal or a chef comes in for the evening. A separate TV lounge gives the children, or anyone who wants a film, a room of their own.

The hallway and the breakfast area are decorated in a modern pop style. The kitchen has a stove, an oven, a microwave, a refrigerator and freezer, a coffee maker, a blender, and all the dishes, cookware and glasses a group of ten needs.

Four of the five suites are on this floor, each with its own bathroom. The suites are painted in different colours, from deep green to terracotta to black and white.

The Presidential Suite.

At the top of the marble staircase is the presidential suite, where many VIP guests have stayed. It overlooks the roof terrace.

The suite's bathroom is finished in black marble, with a jacuzzi and a large shower. From the shower you can see Christ the Redeemer and Copacabana beach.

Outside is the terrace: the pool, sun loungers, a covered pavilion for shade and a dining area facing the Atlantic and Sugarloaf. The penthouse also has a sauna and a barbecue grill with churrasco tools.

Looked after.

The rental includes a housekeeper for the whole stay. She stays in the staff room behind the kitchen most of the time, so your privacy is respected.

Each morning she prepares breakfast; the food and drinks are bought at your cost. She cleans the bedrooms and bathrooms every day. She can also iron, or cook a Brazilian-style lunch or dinner; those extras are billed separately and paid to her directly. Several guests mention her by name in their reviews.

On the day you arrive, Charlie or a member of the Art de Vivre team meets you at the reception, takes you up, shows you how the penthouse works and answers your questions. If you would like the kitchen stocked before you land, we do the supermarket run for you for a fee of R$ 150. If you prefer to order yourself, Zona Sul, Pão de Açúcar and Mundial are good supermarkets and most of them deliver.

Boat days, helicopter flights, guided hikes, airport transfers and a chef for a dinner are booked through our concierge, with operators Art de Vivre books itself.

Copacabana

On Avenida Atlântica.

The building fronts Avenida Atlântica directly. Cross the avenue and the wave-pattern mosaic promenade, and you are on the sand.

The building

A residential building with a 24-hour doorman at the reception, gated security, a garage and two elevators that run to the 13th floor. The penthouse has two garage spaces; a space can be reserved for your stay on request.

The beach

Copacabana is a curve of sand about 4 km long. Mornings bring runners, cyclists and frescobol players; afternoons are for swimming and coconut water under an umbrella; evenings bring musicians and the kiosks along the promenade. Coming back from the beach, there is a bathroom in the parking area behind the reception for rinsing off the sand.

Nearby

Copacabana Fort stands at the southern end of the beach, with Arpoador and Ipanema beyond it. Leme is at the northern end. Our beaches guide and weekend itinerary start from the front door.

Arriving

Both of Rio's airports reach Copacabana by road; our airport guide compares the options, and the concierge can send a private car. The exact address is shared when you book.

VIII
House Rules
A residential building
Quiet neighbours

Before you book.

ADV 001 is a home in a residential building, and these rules keep it that way for the neighbours and for you. Breaking them can lead to a fine.

Arrival

The penthouse is yours from 3:00 PM. If you land early, you can leave your luggage at the reception until then. Check-out is by 11:00 AM, with one of our team present. An early arrival or late departure can sometimes be arranged and is charged as an extra half day.

Stay length

The minimum stay is three nights. The penthouse is also available on a long lease; ask us for the terms.

Guest list

Send us a copy of an ID or passport for every guest before arrival. We leave the list with the building's reception, and only guests named on the reservation may stay.

Visitors

Friends may come for lunch, dinner or drinks if you give us their names at least 48 hours before your check-in, and they show ID at the door. Anyone not on that list cannot enter the building. Visitors may not stay overnight.

Noise

No parties, and no loud music after 10:00 PM.

Deposit

A security deposit of US$ 1,000 is charged separately from the rental on the day you arrive.

Linen care

Sheets and towels are white. Please avoid tinted sunscreen and self-tanner, and do not use the towels to remove make-up; heavily stained linen is charged as a laundry fee.

In the building

Wear a shirt in the lobby and elevators, rinse off the sand before going up, and take care with suitcases in the elevator on arrival and departure days.

Access

Getting around the house.

Two elevators run from the lobby to the penthouse on the 13th floor, which holds the living spaces and four suites. The upper floor, with the presidential suite, the terrace and the pool, is reached by the marble staircase. If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair or finds stairs difficult, tell us before you book and we will go through the layout room by room so you can decide whether it works for you.
